Em Keyflower, cada jogador desenvolve sua própria aldeia, única ao longo de quatro temporadas com sucesso por meio de licitação para peças de aldeia que possuem edifícios especializados e barcos, e através da recolha de habilidades, recursos e trabalhadores (keyples). Em Keyflower: The Merchants, a segunda expansão para Keyflower, os jogadores continuam a desenvolver a sua vila através da extensão de construções e cabanas, a celebração de contratos lucrativos, e encontrando novas combinações de itens sobre os barcos que chegam. Esta expansão acrescenta profundidade ao jogo base. Os contratos, por exemplo, proporcionam mais formas de marcar pontos, mas também pode ser negociado para os itens: trabalhadores, recursos ou peças de habilidade. Algumas extensões duplicam a pontuação fixo de construções existentes. Cabanas oferecem mais oportunidades para atualizar e construir as extensões. Keyflower: The Merchants funciona bem com 2-6 número de jogadores, aumentando em dois o número de jogadores.
